| The
Stones in the Field |

The Stones
in the Field are an Eastern Iowa band dedicated
to the world wide expansion of traditional Celtic music. We play
a dizzying array of instruments: fiddle, concertina, button accordion,
melodeon, wooden flute, tinwhistle, bouzouki, mandolin, banjo, guitar,
bodhran, to name more than a few. We play traditional dance tunes
in the Irish ceili style, as well as our own arrangements of traditional
and original material. We cover a broad range of traditional folk
songs, sea songs, and ballads. We hail from Iowa City, in the heart
of the Middle West. When challenged by a request for some hard-driving
Old-Time American tunes, spritely Swedish tunes, or even a Finnish
polska, we are more than willing and able to comply. Our primary
objective is to get down, cut loose, and have fun with traditional
Celtic music. We try to relay our enthusiasm for this music to our
audiences along the way.
We have been together
in some form or other since the mid 1980s. The two original members,
Dennis Roseman and Dave Hicks were joined by Arianne Waseen and
Abram Doval in 2005. A number of illustrious musicians have passed
through the band over the years. Currently we are down (or up) to
the four of us. |

An
accomplished violinist as well as a fine fiddler, Arianne Waseen
played
with The Singing Strings, a Finnish folk group from the Iron
Range of Minnesota, from 1991 to 2001. While in college, she branched
out into Swedish music with the band EKAJ. She also played
Irish music in the band Soch Llamey. While attending Irish
music sessions in Wisconsin, she met her husband, Abram. |

Dennis
Roseman plays
the concertina, button accordion, bouzouki, banjo, and harmonica.
He has a vast repertoir of dance tunes and is drawn especially to
the music of Clare and Kerry. His storytelling has delighted many
a listener. He and Dave Hicks began performing together as The
Rose in the Heather in the early 1980s, playing for a variety
Irish and Old-time audiences. |

Raised
in a family of Celtic musicians in the deep woods of Wisconsin,
Abram Doval has played
fiddle, wooden flute, mandolin, guitar, and about anything else for
as long as he can remember. Before moving to Iowa City, he was a long
time member of The County Vernon Ceili Band. |
 |
Dave
Hicks plays
fiddle, wooden flute, tin whistle, and guitar. His deep appreciation
of Celtic song lyrics drew him to his current role as the band's lead
vocalist. A flutemaker and owner of the Briar Rose Flute Company,
he has made hundreds of bamboo and wooden flutes since the mid 1970s.
